New Directions Project

New Directions offers free mental health and substance use disorder treatment and case management for clients with a substance use disorder who are also experiencing homelessness (we use a broad definition of homelessness, including individuals and families who are “couch surfing,” doubled up with friends or family, staying in single room occupancies, living in substandard housing, or facing imminent eviction). Clients are eligible when they have a substance use disorder and are experiencing homelessness. A screening tool is provided to referents to help qualify clients who have not been formally diagnosed with a substance use disorder. Families are eligible to receive services when the family is experiencing homelessness and at least one family member has a substance use disorder.New Directions works with Unity to get eligible clients enrolled in their services. Therapy sessions (group and individual formats) take place in our offices in the United Way building (2515 Canal St.) and in community in partner locations.  Currently we are offering services at the Rebuild Center, Drug Court, and the Mid-City and Main branches of the New Orleans Public Library.

This program is funded by SAMHSA.
