The Family Service Board of Directors held its Annual Meeting last week at the home of continuing Board Chair Elizabeth Haecker-Ryan and her husband John.

He credited the positive transformation to a degree of passion and collaboration that had not existed prior to Hurricane Katrina.

Johnson cited new levels of integrity and accountability in New Orleans' government, reforms within the school system, establishment of a biomedical district and the city's Economic Development Plan as sure signs of progress.

CEO Ron McClain provided the board leadership with a current assessment of Family Service and distributed copies of the agency's newly released annual report. Regarding prospects for 2013, McClain stated: "I see promise."

New board appointments include:

Counseling and Caring

Beginning this past week and through the end of the school year, two clinicians will provide individual and group therapy onsite at Recovery School District schools. It is possible a third clinician may be added to be available to children in need.

Although FSGNO’s Crisis Response Team serves the community in times of crisis, it also plans to engage in community outreach activities. Our counselors want to help build playgrounds, paint classrooms or engage in any activity that contributes to the creation of healthy communities. Though CART is well known for its crisis work, our counselors also want to be known as a team that cares when there is no crisis at hand. Suggestions for activities are welcomed. Please contact Kazanda Lucas, CART Manager at (504) 827-4005 or email at

FSGNO Provides Court-Ordered Counseling

A Family Service clinician is now providing counseling services to Mental Health Court clients referred from Orleans Parish Criminal Court. Referrals are often struggling with severe mental illness, substance abuse and criminal history.

Special Thanks

Thank you to all donors during our holiday campaign. In particular, we would like to extend a special note of gratitude to The Azby Fund and Valero Oil Company who gave so generously to support Family Service.
